Datis Gol
Founder, Bucks Star Brewery
Since my childhood I have wanted to create and offer something good to those around me, and little did I know that my academic background in law was simply a stepping stone to eventually realising the Bucks Star brand and what we believe to be pure, quality beer.
We haven’t been short of obstacles, but any truly rewarding venture will no doubt deliver its challenges, whether it’s competitors who don’t want you in the market or remedying certain perceptions the general public may hold about particular products. We’ve had to work hard to elucidate the benefits of unfiltered and unfined (without isinglass) beer, which we translate as our live unfiltered beer.
It took two years of planning, but before our first full year of trading, a neighbouring business caught fire preventing us from brewing in our new shiny brewery. This did not stop us. The support we received from friends and the local public gave us encouragement. The opportunity also allowed us to innovate and pioneer our very own zero-waste drinks scheme called Growler Swap and in 2016 we won the Craft Beer of the Year award in the Buckinghamshire Food and Drink Awards. This was despite not being able to operate commercially. In 2018 we returned to the brewery to make preparations for restarting production.
